Adult Intensive Outpatient Program for Chemical Dependency

Also Known As: Adult IOP

The Adult IOP provides intensive treatment for adults with substance abuse problems, or a combination of substance abuse, emotional and psychiatric related issues. The program is designed to help the individual gain insight into what role alcohol and drugs has played in the problems he/she may be having in his/her life. This is considered a “feeling disease” that affects the entire family. Behaviors and problems will be explored, as well as alternative coping skills to solving problems without turning to alcohol and drugs. The IOP meets three nights a week. Upon successful completion of the IOP, a free weekly aftercare group meets on Wednesday evenings. Because the program meets in the evenings, it allows individuals to remain employed and live at home while getting the help they need. The Adult IOP includes, but is not limited to: • Education about the negative impact of drugs/alcohol on one’s life and society • Education about the disease concept of addiction • Individualized treatment plans • Alcohol and drug testing • Relapse prevention • Case management • Family education and support • Support group • Communication with community professionals (as appropriate) • 12-step participation is strongly recommended • Referrals, as needed, to appropriate medical, psychiatric, or for other services are available. /// The DWI program meets for 6 weeks, 2 hours a session. The DWI program is an education group that covers topics such as the effects of alcohol on the body, alcohol related statistics and the effects of various blood alcohol levels on the body. There is some flexibility in scheduling the sessions according to participants' availability. /// ABH provides an 8-week long adult outpatient group that meets once a week, Monday 6:00-8:45 p.m. Topics are similar material to what is covered in the IOP sessions. Participants will be in the same group as the IOP participants. Urine screens and breathalyzers are also part.
