CB Girls Program

Also Known As: CBES, CBMS, CBHS

The Community Bridges Girls programming has been in existence for over 16 years and partners with schools, their administration (teachers, counselors and principals), communities and parents to identify girls in grades 4-12 that would be a good fit for our programming. Our CB Girls programming is focused on changing individual/community behavior through providing our girls with daily opportunities to develop skills, attitudes and behaviors utilizing positive youth development, popular education and social work theories to engage them in understanding and appreciating their identity while promoting short-term goals of positive/servant leadership, civic responsibility and advocacy for shifting their long-term goals and trajectory to breaking the cycle of poverty within their family. The CB girl could be any girl that is struggling with acclimating to her new school environment: the shy girl in the classroom, the girl who may be on the verge of “acting out” behaviorally, or the girl on the verge of recognizing her own leadership capabilities. Additionally, we target the girls whom are having the most challenges with the acculturation into their school environments due to cultural or traditional barriers that aren’t readily represented in their schools. Community Bridges believes that engaging directly with these girls will serve two purposes: to develop resiliency that allows them to overcome and critically think through at-risk situations and behaviors that may affect their long-term goals/success, and to empower them to challenge the status quo and create positive change.
