Early Head Start
Also Known As: EHS
EHS is a federally funded community-based program for low-income families with infants and toddlers and pregnant women. Its mission is simple: to promote healthy prenatal outcomes for pregnant women, enhance the development of very young children, and promote healthy family functioning. EHS evolved out of Head Start's long history of providing services to infants and toddlers through Parent Child Centers, Comprehensive Child Development Centers (CCDPs). Early Head Start works in partnership with families to help them be better parents and to help their infants and toddlers have a better start on a successful life. The program provides early education, health, mental health, nutritional and social services to low-income families through direct care of referrals. Assessment and referral are made for early intervention for infants and toddlers with disabilities. Parents will have an opportunity to join monthly policy council and parent committee meetings. Transportation assistance is available for attending EHS activities.
